The Twelve Days of Christmas is a traditional Christmas carol that originates from England. The exact origins and the meaning behind the gifts are somewhat debated but tradition holds that the song was a "catechism song" to help young Catholics learn their faith, at a time when practicing Catholicism was discouraged in England.
The Twelve Days of Christmas actually begin on Christmas Day, December 25th. The twelfth day ends at midnight on January 5th of each year. The Holy Day of the Epiphany is followed on January 6.
All Christmas decorations should be left up until the Epiphany.
